An Exercise in Dissection

Duality is all around us. Some objects consist of two parts by nature ⁠— let’s say, walnuts. Others are constructed this way ⁠— like roads with opposing lanes. A lot of things have been separated artificially, on a speculative level: planet Earth, for instance, doesn’t really have distinctive hemispheres that can be seen from outer space.

The idea of duality is popular. Look at all those angels and demons, good and bad movie characters, male and female footwear, economy and business, regular and premium, us and them. Do people just love to split stuff? It looks like they do. Probably because the contents of their heads are divided into halves ⁠— in terms of structure and, to some degree, functionality.

Speaking of cranium insides, two electronic music producers decided to use the brain in their work ⁠— for a change (there will be no better place for this joke). The arrangement was: each can depend only on one of the cerebral hemispheres in the process. They have tossed an imaginary coin to define the specifics of their fictional brain dissection and then produced a pair of tracks for this duality-themed release.

What makes it fun is keeping the results of that draw undisclosed. Which tune relates to what exactly? Do the titles point at the parts that were inactive or otherwise? Maybe it doesn’t matter much ⁠— especially if you do not believe that the left and right halves of the human brain are actually separated by serving different purposes.
